Music On Pointe has some great news to share! Our collaborative Film, “Rebirth,” will be featured at 2024’s Screendance, a dance film festival based in Miami, Florida. It was produced by our director, Reshma Anwar, danced and spoken by herself and Awele Ajufo, and filmed by Von Clinton.
So, please join us for Miami Light Project’s ScreenDance Miami Festival 2024! Official Selections will be screened at Pérez Art Museum Miami and include two programs of short films selected by the ScreenDance Miami Festival curator and panelists. Don’t miss a conversation with featured filmmakers immediately following the Florida Focus film selections.
Rebirth, which was created in 2023, will celebrate its world premiere amongst other films. It captures the experiences of two women who are daughters to immigrant parents. One story features the experience of growing up in Germany as a South Asian woman, the other tells the story of Nigerian woman who grew up in the US. Both connect through their experiences and movement.
Our experiences are not unique. The film shares glimpses of what it means to belong but not to belong, what identity means, and in the end, it celebrates our own power to create our own identities. This experience is not free from struggle. It comes with trauma that can leave deep wounds. But the beauty of it all is our resilience through the passion for movement and dance. Art heals.
